In case you haven't heard the news, Warner Bros. is about to release an Essential Bugs Bunny DVD collection. Upon looking at the contents, not quite impressed, but it's a good template.
This is kind of strange to do around these parts, but what would be your essential collection of popular characters? Your mission, if you choose to accept it, create a two-disc Essentials Collection. One character. Between 10-14 shorts (about two hours of video) you feel are the essential shorts representative of your character on one disc, and assorted videos featuring your character, including modern takes on the character, on the other disc.
Here's my Essential Daffy Duck.
Disc One: Daffy Duck & Egghead (1938, Avery) Daffy Duck in Hollywood (1938, Avery) Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur (1939, Jones) My Favorite Duck (1942, Jones) Draftee Daffy (1945, Clampett) Book Revue (1946, Clampett) Nasty Quacks (1945, Tashlin) The Scarlett Pumpernickel (1950, Jones) Drip-along Daffy (1951, Jones) Rabbit Seasoning (1952, Jones) Duck Amuck (1953, Jones) Muscle Tussle (1953, McKimson) Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2 Century (1953, Jones) Robin Hood Daffy (1958, Jones)
Disc 2: The Night of the Living Duck (1988, Ford/Lennon) Daffy Duck For President (2004) Daffy Meets Drew and Mimi (The Drew Carey Show) Daffy Sells Stuff (Visa Ad/PSAs/Post) Bugs vs. Daffy: Battle of the Music Video Stars (1988 TV special) Duck Dodgers: The Series (2004, Samurai Quack/The Green Loontern)
