So after watching Scott Pilgrim vs. The World on DVD twice, I really can't praise it enough. This was my first exposure to Scott Pilgrim, as I never read the comics - but that'll change soon.
The basic story's fairly simple: It's about this dude named... well, Scott Pilgrim, a 22 year old Canadian slacker who's dating a 17 year old Chinese-Canadian girl named Knives (yeah, her name is Knives... roll with it), is a part of a rather unpopular garage band called "Sex Bob-Omb", and has a gay roommate named Wallace (who's easily one of my favorite characters). However, one day in the library, he meets Ramona Flowers, who is the girl of his dreams (literally... he actually had a dream about her before seeing her). However, there's a twist: If Scott wants to date Ramona, he'll need to defeat her Seven Evil Ex-Boyfriends. Oh, and this is all set in a NES-like videogame/comic book world - there are 8-bit sound effects, on-screen meters and character bios, and the Seven Evil Exes are all fought in videogame/comic book style "boss fights".
If it sounds odd, that's because it honestly kind of is (seriously, some of the evil exes are so freaking weird). But it's the awesome kind of odd.
It's funny (special shout-out to Knive's literal ":0" face in one scene, the Seinfeld parodying scene, and Wallace in general), it's got great characters who are all cast perfectly, the videogame/comic book effects and 8-bit sound effects work great and never get annoying or distracting, and it's also got a ton of genuine heart (there's a surprising amount of sweet moments for a movie featuring absurd comic fights).
Overall, I really loved the heck out of this movie, and am wondering if anyone else here is familiar with Scott Pilgrim.
